New Question

Now that you know how to use scientific notation, you can talk about very big numbers and very small ones with ease. You can tell 1036 and 1041 apart without spending an hour counting zeroes!

However, if you needed to make a graph involving these kinds of numbers, it would be a pain. Suppose you were studying a bacterial population in which each bacterium produced 10 new bacteria in an hour.

In the beginning there would be one bacterium

After the first hour there would be 10

After the second hour, 100

After the third hour, 1000...

Pretty soon, there would be an inconvenient number of bacteria!
